Wasps Fall at Final Hurdle
|
West
Kirby Wasps Under 7's performed admirably at the 6 a-side Soccerdome
Tournament in Seacombe on 3 April 2007, with the Black squad reaching
the final and the Amber squad only one win away from securing a
semi-final place.
For both teams this was their
first encounter of tournament football against a strong contingent
from teams throughout Wirral and Cheshire. In the group games the
Amber squad performed admirably with striker Ryan Regan in prolific
form scoring six goals in eight games much to the delight of caretaker
Manager Julian Creevy and coach Jon Home.
The Black squad finished second
in the group stages winning six and drawing two of their 8 games,
conceding only 4 goals in the process, whilst registering 22 of
their own. In the semi final the Black squad proved too strong for
Mags Madrid and a four goal salvo from Jaz Pardesi-Barker ensured
a 7-1 win and a place in the final against holders Vauxhall Astra.
Unfortunately the Blacks couldn't
reproduce this form in the final against a well-organised Astra
team and were given a footballing lesson by the motormen, though
the 5-0 reversal somewhat flattered the eventual winners. Having
held Vauxhalls to a 1-1 scoreline earlier in the group stages it
was a disappointing end and as Coach Neil Mitchell reflected later
- "there were plenty of tired legs out there and it proved
a game too far". However he was quick to praise his players
adding that "the squad's performance had exceeded his expectations
and would be better equipped next time round".
