Pre-league presentation day - no rain and a fantastic day had by all (21/05/05)

With the memories of last year's weather far away the sunglasses came out and the bouncy castle actually had some children bouncing on it!

The under 6s and under 7s were combined to make 6 teams, as were the under 8s and under 9s.  This year the theme was based on the Champions League with the following teams represented: PSV Eindhoven, Juventus, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.  Each team played 5 games and then the 2 teams with the highest number of points played each other in the final.  The under 6s & 7s final saw Bayern Munich beat AC Milan 2-0 in extra time (not wanting to be biased, but let's hope this can be repeated on Wednesday in the real thing!!!) whilst in the under 8s & 9s final Bayern again won, this time beating Real Madrid.

As usual, the day ended with presentations of the various age group awards and the raffle.  Many thanks go to all those helped put on such a fun day.

PRESS RELEASE

WEST KIRBY WASPS FC RECEIVE FA CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB AWARD

Cheshire County Football Association has awarded West Kirby Wasps FC the prestigious FA Charter Standard Development Club award for grass roots football.

The national FA Charter Standard award is presented to those clubs like West Kirby Wasps FC who lead the field in promoting best football practice, both on and off the pitch in grassroots football.

Julie Shone, West Kirby Wasps FC secretary, said the club was "absolutely delighted to receive such a prestigious award. All the volunteers connected with the club have worked very hard to achieve this high standard. We are all totally committed to developing the club further for the benefit of the children of the Wirral".

West Kirby Wasps FC was presented with their award at the clubs’ AGM on the 13 April by James Self (Cheshire County FA Football Development Officer).

Sir Trevor Brooking, The FA’s Director of Football Development comments: "The FA Charter Standard award acknowledges the fantastic support that West Kirby Wasps FC is providing within the local community and its efforts to provide opportunities for players to develop their skills and play football in a safe and positive environment."

"The FA is committed to raising the standards of football at grassroots level and the dedication and achievements of clubs like West Kirby Wasps FC make this possible".

The FA Charter Standard programme, supported by FA partner McDonald’s, was established three years ago and aims to improve standards of coaching, administration, player development and child protection.

Since then, over 41 clubs representing more than 365 teams in Cheshire have achieved FA Charter Standard Club, Adult Club, Development or Community Club status.

Pre-league presentation day - rain fails to stop play! (08/05/04)

Despite the pouring raining, which fell relentlessly on Hilbre's playing fields, a wonderful day was had by all.

As usual the 6s & 7s and the 7s & 8s were combined into equal ability squads.  The 6 European teams at each level played each other, before the 2 highest scoring teams at each level met in the finals.  France and Sweden met in 6s & 7s final, finishing 0-0.  Then in an agonizing penalty shoot out the 2 teams couldn't be separated, invoking the sudden death rule which finally ended in Sweden being victorious.

True club spirit shone through (shame the sun couldn't!) and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable day.  The afternoon ended with the awards ceremony and raffle draw.

Many thanks to Neil, Julie and everyone else involved who gave up their time on the day.

A little bit of Wasps' history has been made (20/10/03)
Paul Linwood, son of Norman Linwood, our Club President and Junior Section Chairman, became the first Wasps Old Boy to play in the Football League.
He made his first team debut for Tranmere Rovers in the LDV Vans Trophy at Blackpool in mid week and his League debut in the 2-1 home win against Oldham on Saturday, 18 October.
Paul, a centre half, played for the Wasps from the tender age of 5 and went on to represent England as a Youth International.  His achievement is a great incentive to all our young Wasps and is a great honour for the Club. Incidentally, Norman tells me that all Paul's early coaching was done by his mum!

Chairman's Message (05/09/03)
"Welcome back to another exciting year with the West Kirby Wasps Football Club. New boots tried out in the back garden and six weeks of stories to tell your mates. Life is wonderful, life is football.
I would like to thank those people that make the West Kirby Wasps the excellent club that it is today. The coaches, whose commitment to the club and the players is unquestionable. I wish to thank the parents for all their encouragement and dedication towards the children. Most of all I would like to thank the players themselves, as without them, we would not be what we are today. I am sure you will agree with me in that it has been a pleasure to see the players develop and watch them grow. Not only in size but also in stature. I feel that being a part of the Wasps will help all our players mature and maintain high ethical standards.
I will continue to strive towards developing our Club. We are working towards a youth team next season, and the Veterans team are already well established. Don't they look smart in their new kit! Continuing with the Charter Standard remains a priority and we seek to develop this further. I feel there are exciting times ahead and we look forward to taking you with us.
I am proud to hold the position of Chair with this Club. I am sure that there is a feeling of pride amongst all members when they say they are a part of the Wasps.
It has been an honour for my wife Julie and I to represent you. We both feel this has been a most rewarding experience.
I look forward to welcoming you back in the new season 2003/2004 and wish you all the very best."
"Come on you Wasps"
Neil Shone, Club Chairman
