Fixtures and Results for 2009

Match 6: Bidston, Friday 2nd October 2009

20mph gales, occasional drizzle, a small field, local members picking Bernie’s ball up on the fairway, and some competitors playing additional holes when they ‘got lost’ (which would surely involve disqualification in a stricter environment !) didn’t prevent another good event to formally close the season.

The result was a 3 way tie for the first time ever, with the three remaining level even after a 9-hole countback. However, when reducing it back to 6-holes, debutant (even though he’s been on the mailing list for two years !) Jimmy Towers took the 1st prize.

Match 4: Wirral Ladies, Friday 24th July 2009

Another excellent event at Wirral Ladies last week, with excellent hospitality from the club, and many positive comments about the course and it’s condition. I’m sure this will be another venue that we choose to return to next year.

Also, note how close everyone was to each other – the whole field separated by just 9 shots – looks like the handicap committee is finally getting it’s act together after 3 years :o)

Winner: Ralph Ramsey (on back 9 countback)

Runner-up : Phil Young

Match 3: Shaw Hill, Preston, Thursday & Friday 29th June 2009

An excellent couple of days – fantastic hotel, course, value, weather and company, and an overwhelming mandate to return again next year – the only question being whether to extend it into a 3-dayer ! Another thanks is due to Martin Francis who helped make the arrangements for us with his home club.

The team event of Wasps Originals v Wasps Newbies resulted in a 7 ½ - 6 ½ victory for the Newbies. It was all square after the Scramble on the first day, but the Newbies just edged home in the Matchplay singles on Friday.
